HOW SOCIAL MEDIA AFFECTS THE YOUTH?

In our new generation, many youth are encouraged to use gadgets and social medias. But there’s a big question that comes into my mind that is, how social media affects the youth?  According to Susan K., “Admittedly, children know more about the online world than their parents but they don’t have their level of judgment. Internet-safety expert Parry Aftab said: “Kids know more about technology. Parents know more about life.” Awake reminds us that if we use social network at all, always protect our privacy, be selective in adding friends online and monitor the amount of time we spend on it.
Such in the case of an OFW which is based on a true story, an Overseas Filipino Worker had a relationship with a 20-year-old Pinay he met through Facebook. The middle aged worker was attracted with the profile photo of the girl, sent her friend requests, which she eventually accepted. The OFW introduced himself. The girl was impressed. Then after a few days, they were already in a relationship. After a few weeks, the girl appeared to be problematic. The girl is asking the OFW to send money twice. Then the OFW sent money. But on third time, he started to become suspicious. His Sugar Baby admitted everything she told were all lies. She revealed that she made all those stories to fool her boyfriend because she was pregnant and was abandoned by the man who impregnated her.
According to justice assistant secretary Geronimo Sy, “We are appealing that when they report crimes, we hope that these are crimes involved many victims and not just a family feud or a fight between boyfriend and girlfriend because resources are very limited” .So, for all youth, it is important to give them knowledge or advise from their parents or guidance to know what are the limitations in using a particular social media. For now, I, you and all of us should thinks first before we click.
